What is a gadget?

Well, a gadget (probably from the french word "gachette", that means various mechanical parts), generally is a electronic device which has a practical function in day-to-day, the word is used too for a small software, modulus, tools or service inside a operational system or in a website.
Sometimes, in the case of ostensible gadgets, they're used for show a social status, this is the case of some kind of people that uses the old fashioned ipods.
Since we started talking about ipods, there are a lot of examples of physical gadgets, like the mp3 and mp4 devices, tablets, smartphones, smatwatchs, high-tech glasses (like google glass) et cetera.
The examples of non-ostensible gadgets are google desktop apps, blogger gadgets and windows gadgets.
